MUSIC RIGHTS OBTAINED AND OURS!!! *evil laughter*
For our movie, I have (finally!) gotten the musical rights to the work of Daniel Schraer, a renowned composer famous for his work on the web series “There Will Be Brawl” (which is an awesome series, go check it out here). His music is slow piano and other instruments, which, if we use it right, will add the sinister horror music to the apparition scenes. I will upload the song we have permission to use, “Squirtle Piano 2” (remember, it’s from TWBB, so ignore the random title XP) in due time. Here is the permission correspondence, as requested by Kate.
Dear Mr. Schraer
My name is Liam Watson and I am a huge fan of your music, particularly in the web series, “There Will Be Brawl”. I wanted to contact you in regards to one particular composition that is one of my personal favourites, “Squirtle Piano 2”, which I am seeking your permission to use as music in the short film I myself am currently composing for.
The short film, “Etainen”, is a psychological 5-minute short thriller about a play on “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, where our main character, Luke, is being haunted by a wolf-like apparition, and showing his descent into complete insanity (a dark and gritty story which I’m sure you’re use to in working with TWBB!!). Your composition will be used in varying sections to highlight the horror factor, and it may be raised or lowered in pitch using the program, Audacity, but otherwise, no changes will be made to the composition itself.
I understand that some of your work is under the International Fair Use Act (the same as TWBB and its affiliations with Nintendo), but I wanted to make sure and ask for your permission to use your work in our short film. I want to make perfectly clear that this film will be used strictly within an educational and assessable environment, and should the opportunity arise for its use in film festivals or other exhibitions, I will contact you again for your permission of the song’s use.
If you can reply to this message as soon as possible, I would appreciate the assistance you can give to a fellow composer.
Yours Sincerely,
Liam Watson
He replied with a positive attitude:
hmmm as long as the song is properly credited then I’m all right with it. And I would love to see the project when its finished.
Let me know if you need anything else - I would love to do more composing.
Thanks for asking!
Daniel
And viola. We have rights to that music. We have a showcase of his work available on the TWBB website, should we need anything else. He is very helpful and eager to cooperate, collaborate and otherwise pimp our movie. ^_^ As said before, the mp3 for the song is on its way presently.
Peace out, from RBZ!!
